ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW LEAF (3DS – Originally Released June 9th, 2013)

Animal Crossing New LeafI will be the first to admit my love for Animal Crossing. It may be the cute NPC’s, or the gardening, or even the decorating. Whatever the case may be, I really enjoy the game. Most of my playthroughs of previous iterations last about a couple months before I get tired of doing the same thing, and so I start over. This time, I can’t seem too put the newest entry in this franchise down! Animal Crossing: New Leaf takes everything about the older games, and makes them new.

You play as the mayor of (insert name of town here), and your responsibilities include making the town beautiful, keeping peace with the NPC’s (and/or other players), and adding that extra bit of flourish by decorating the town with paintings, shops, and other businesses. Many of your favorite characters are back, but some facilitate completely new roles! Fore anyone who is looking for advice, my suggestion is to talk to the other townsfolk everyday. There are various rewards to being a good mayor and the number of people who will trust your decisions all come down to your knowledge of them. It also helps to clean up the place.

Now, I do NOT have all the golden items in the game, and my place is certainly NOT maxed out. I do have Gracie’s Shop, so I have made progress! Overall, this is a HUGE step towards a bigger game on the WiiU, because let’s face it… the game could only go up after City Folk.  I have gone a long time with this game.  From Christmas event to the Groundhog’s Day, and even to Festivale (Mardi Gras) I have had a great time with the characters of the game.  Nintendo really took their time to make each character stand out and have their own unique personality.

My only concern is within the Happy Home Academy.  If you street pass with someone and get a house you can buy up to 5 pieces of furniture from that house.  Problem is is that you cannot buy items that were altered by Cyrus.  It is a sad thing to see a person with a full furniture set of items that you want but can’t buy due to the customization lock.  It is a small complaint, but a complaint nether the less.

Overall, Animal Crossing: New Leaf takes a ton of steps forward from the last installment.  With the change in mayor, the various ordinates and even the special events, there is never a dull moment in the town of (insert your town name here).  It is a solid game and I highly recommend you all play this 3DS game.  Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the Nintendo 3DS gets 4.5 bells out of 5.  Kick it DJ K.K.!!!
